Health Savings Account?
June 18, 2008
I’m looking to get a new health insurance plan for me and the boys (and then transition the wife over to once the baby comes) and I thought I’d ask you for your opinion.
I’m leaning towards a Health Savings Account, but have never had one and am curious to know what other people have / would recommend. The HSA seems like a good balance between catastrophe hedging and normal everyday medical expenses.
Feel free to fire away…

Curious to know if you plan on substituting an insurance plan with an HSA or supplementing it? I’m currently in the same boat as you so I’ll keep an eye on this post.

Actually, I’m not sure. The plans I’ve been looking at have a monthly premium that covers a little bit of stuff with a high deductible. So I guess that is supplementing it?

Hey Dude, I’m telling you….HSAs are the future of health care. They are a great way to go w/o breaking the pocket book. We’re seeing more and more individuals and companies choose and HSA over the standard blue cross blue shield plan. Some high deductible plans that are supplemented with a HSA actually cover trips to the emergency room even if you haven’ met your deductible so if the kids get strep or something you can take them to the ER. Let’s tallk more about it this weekend. I for one am very Pro HSA.

Also, with a HSA you can use the money in the account to buy pretty much anything you can relate to “health”. Contacts, cough medicine, even a mattress for your old man back….
