09.06.2008 / Bowling, Museum and Aquarium

It’s been a busy few days including a trip to the bowling alley on Thursday afternoon, a rather disappointing trip to the Tampa Museum of Art this morning followed by a short tour of the aquarium.

To be honest I was utterly disappointed by TMA, but considering they’re in a temporary building while their new one gets built, I will cut them some slack for now. The aquarium was cut short by our middle son feeling terrible (he’s been sick for a few days, picking up a cold/flu from his older brother.)

Other than that we’ve just been keeping an eye on this and the “cone of uncertainty.”

08.20.2008 / Tropical Storm Bypass

After being laughed at for considering evacuating two days before Fay was supposed to hit Tampa, Tropical Storm Fay completely missed Tampa, turning east more sharply than the initial storm track predicted. A few things I’ve learned from the experience:

1. People who have lived in Florida for a long time were actually looking forward to the storm, one woman telling me “I hate living in Tampa! We never get lucky!” Ummm, I thought the storm missing us would be “lucky” but apparently there are quite a few people who think the opposite.

2. Don’t mention the “evacuate” word unless the storm is projected to be a category 3 or higher. If you do, you risk continual ridicule and a barrage of “rookie” statements.

3. Watch the projected path carefully. It fluctuates quite dramatically.

4. Regardless of what future storms do, remember what Job 37:11-12 says.

08.11.2008 / Back in ABQ

I’m in Albuquerque this week working on launching a site. Flying into ABQ this afternoon, I thought, “Wow, the Sandia mountains are very beautiful.” I also thought, after being able to see the entire city from about 200 feet, “Wow, I’m really glad we are in a bigger city!”

My parents met me at the airport and we went immediately to meet my sister and brother-in-law at the Range Cafe. Yum. Yum. Yum. Green chile rellenos, blue corn tortilla chips and huevos rancheros hit the spot big time.

There are thousands of amazing photographs on Flickr some of which I’m going to post under “Flickr Faves”. This one is taken in Berlin, where I hear the architecture scene is off the hizay.

That’s the question posed in the recent edition of Atlantic Monthly. The article offers compelling evidence how instant access to information may be changing the way our brains process data.

06.22.2008 / Reunion Wrapup

Sixty some people all from Hannah’s side. Lots of good conversation. An abundance of sloppy cafeteria food. Two In n’ Out runs. Some swimming. Not so much sleeping. One long plane ride with a second tomorrow. And now some bad heart burn. All in all fun times. Oh yeah, and some family photos which were much better cooridinated than I thought they’d be. Good job Sarah!

06.21.2008 / In The Words of The Beatles…

… I’m sooo tired I haven’t slept a wink.

Our 2 year old woke up at 2 am crying for momma and our 4 and 6 year old have been so amped playing with all their cousins that they’ve been up until 11 or later each night. The end result is that daddy is rather sleep deprived and missing mommy too.

06.19.2008 / Phoenix Has Landed

Who would have expected that as a blog title? The flight went very well and the boys were very laid back and content so much so that when we landed in Phoenix the man sitting across from us asked “how much Benedryl did you give your kids?” I told him that I’d given them none and that we still had to go from Phoenix to LAX and that I was keeping my fingers crossed. They are running off energy at the airport play place which is not nearly as cool at the Tampa one. Our flight is delayed an hour so they should be totally zonked by the time we hit LA.

And if you’ve ever wondered why my wife refers to our youngest one as the Adventurer kindly observe the following photo sequence for evidence. (Don’t worry it wasn’t nearly as bad as it looks.)
