Gary Busey on Business
July 25, 2008
These satire clips to promote GotVMail are well done. A few of them (”now more than ever”, “motivational cliches” and “what it takes to be successful”) made me genuinely laugh out loud.
UPDATE: I removed the video because it auto-played - here is a link to it.

Mastercard Small Business Commercial
June 17, 2008
In general, I think the Mastercard “Priceless” campaign is tired. However, that didn’t prevent me from enjoying their latest spot which I saw while watching the U.S. Open (best golf tournament ever) this weekend. I think it accurately captures the sentiment of a small business entrepreneur. You can watch below…
While We’re On Nike…

… their latest campaign site (promoting the new Nike Juice ball) lets you watch stuff explode. I like.
New Tiger Woods Commercial
June 13, 2008
Wieden + Kennedy has done another fantastic commercial which is scheduled to air this weekend during U.S. Open coverage. You can get a sneak peak at Nike’s website. WK is the agency behind most of the Sports Center commercials which I think are some of the funniest commercials of all time. Not sure if WK did this particular one but I think it’s my all-time favorite.
TurnItAround.ca

Interesting attempt to go against mainstream media channels pushing their values on consumers. From the site:
“How often have you gone to the store, and found yourself looking at a magazine cover that is designed to manipulate you by trying to make you feel like you’re not pretty enough, thin enough, sexy enough, smart enough, rich enough, or just not ______________ enough?”
From the lack of entries on their blog it appears that either 1) no one knows about it or 2) no one cares. What do you think?
Shock Ads: Effective or Tasteless?
February 27, 2008
Newsweek has an interesting mini-feature questioning the efficacy of shock ad tactics. AdRant founder Steve Hall told Newsweek these ads are “like a sledgehammer to the face.”
Thoughts?
Brilliant on so many levels

If you haven’t heard yet, Radiohead released their 7th album today two days ago. I’m a long time Radiohead enthusiast, but this latest release is ridiculous. And I’m not just talking about the music. The coolest part of this whole release is that the band is letting users name their own price to download the album. Yep, that’s right. You get to decide how much you want to pay. I read on CNN today two days ago that some guy said he was going to pay one hundred dollars for the album.
I’m sure we’ll see a slew of other bands try to follow in Radiohead’s marketing genius, just as we have seen a slew of bands over the last decade try to copy Radiohead’s musical genius. If the last ten years have been any indication all attempts will be cheap imitations.
